Learn how the revisions will affect you
The ISO 12944 standard is an essential guide for professionals dealing with corrosion. Developed in the 1990s, it describes the types of paints, varnishes and paint systems commonly used for protecting steel structures from corrosion. It also provides guidance on the selection of paint systems available for different environments and different surface preparation grades, and the durability grade to be expected.
This year, the standard will undergo a substantial revision.
Understanding the changes
The British Coating Federation (BCF) has produced an information sheet for paint manufacturers and those involved with projects which require anticorrosive protection. It details the major changes to ISO 12944 including:
- The main differences between the old and new version
- The compliance status of existing certificates and systems
- How the new standard’s categories compare with Norsok Standard M-501
